POOL DROWNINGS – ARE YOU PREPARED?
Local authorities, health club operators, company directors, and
operational staff! Drowning, death, manslaughter… no one
wants these words to be associated with their health club, leisure
centre or spa. The RLSS* would like to help, which is why they
are running a thought-provoking seminar at this year’s
LIW, educating all levels of management and staff in the legislation
and preventative measures that can be taken before a swimming
pool
incident occurs.
Within the year a new ‘Corporate Manslaughter’ bill
will be introduced making it far easier for companies to be prosecuted
for manslaughter. Therefore, not only should operational staff,
ie
lifeguards and general managers, be equipped with the facts, but
so should company directors and senior managers. Companies face
unlimited fines, funding compensation payments and by order of
the court they
will have to publicise their conviction. Pool operators will be
required to prove that they did everything possible to avoid
incident or accident.
